Lancaster, Pa. — Armstrong World Industries formally started an expansion Friday of its Lancaster luxury vinyl tile (LVT) plant.

The $41 million project, announced by the company in October, is expected to create 60 jobs. Shipping of LVT is expected to begin in mid 2015.

The Lancaster plant will replace product made for Armstrong by a manufacturer in China. In addition, a new production line for CushionStep, Armstrong’s fiberglass-backed residential sheet product, will be installed inside a vacant 30,000-square-foot section of its Dillerville Road complex in Lancaster.

Pennsylvania officials including Senator Pat Toomey and Rep. Joe Pitts joined Armstrong CEO Matt Espe for the ceremonial start of the LVT production line.
