Dalton – Tandus Flooring has named retired Marine Master Sergeant William “Spanky” Gibson as executive consultant.  In this advisory position, Gibson will work as an integral member of the Tandus Flooring Government Team in support of business development with government agencies nationwide.  Gibson was the first above-the-knee amputee to return to ground combat operations in Iraq and was the first enlisted service member to be appointed as a Congressional Fellow to the U.S. House of Representatives, advocating for wounded warrior initiatives on the House Committee on Veteran’s Affairs. Gibson’s position demonstrates Tandus Flooring’s commitment to wounded warriors and combat veterans, in particular to those from post-9/11 contingencies in Iraq and Afghanistan.  Gibson will use his insights honed through 22 years of military service to help Tandus Flooring enhance its product and service offering to government facilities and VA hospitals.

“It is a privilege to welcome Master Sgt. Spanky Gibson to the Tandus Flooring family,” said Ben Saylor, Tandus Flooring national sales vice president, government.  “He is a distinguished combat veteran and American patriot, having served with distinction in multiple combat tours and sacrificed for the cause of freedom. His professionalism and leadership will be instrumental as we work with the Department of Veterans Affairs to extend best-of-industry solutions to VA hospitals and clinics.”

Gibson’s awards are numerous, including Meritorious Service Medal, Purple Heart, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Valor Device, Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medals and Combat Action Ribbons.  His disability hasn’t held him back from athletic endeavors.  Gibson has competed in 12 races including a marathon and two half Ironman races.  He has been featured by Sports Illustrated, the 2010 Super Bowl, and many national TV news shows for his inspiring determination and advocacy for disabled veterans.

Gibson joins Tandus Flooring, a company that has provided best-of-industry flooring solutions to government facilities for more than 40 years.  As the only manufacturer of Powerbond, modular and broadloom on the GSA contract, Tandus Flooring provides true “fit for purpose” flooring recommendations based on the needs of the facility.
