Itasca, Ill.—Days before the commercial world turned its attention to NeoCon, Mr. David’s, one of the flooring industry’s largest contractors, held its annual Starnet Design Awards luncheon at its office and warehouse in this Chicago suburb as a way for it to honor the various people and companies behind its most noted installations from the past year.
A member of the Starnet cooperative, the Mr. David’s luncheon is based around the buying group’s annual Design Awards competition, which honors projects based on the creative use of flooring, the integration of flooring into the overall design concept and the successful achievement of client objectives. The winners are then announced during Starnet’s annual spring meeting (FCNews, April 30/May 7).
Nearly 100 people consisting of architects, designers and representatives of the companies where the projects were done attended the Mr. David’s ceremony. Of the 15 projects honored, the grand prize went to the team behind the project at United Airlines’ corporate office in Chicago’s Willis Tower (formerly the Sears Tower), which occupies 10 stories in the world famous building.
Michael Landers, director of design and construction for United Airlines, said the company was “very pleased with the outcome of the design. I’ve personally been working with Mr. David’s for 10 years now and its nice to work with such a professional partner. It is so important to the success of any project.”
