Dalton — When Sergio Triana was a third-grader, he was recognized in the Beaulieu Excellence in Education Program for reading more books than anyone in his grade in Whitfield County or Dalton Public Schools in Georgia.

But because he was not yet a U.S. citizen with a Social Security number, he could not collect his prize: $1,000 U.S. Savings Bond. Beaulieu officials promised he would receive his award as soon as he became a citizen.

At a ceremony at Beaulieu America headquarters with local news media present, Del Land, COO of Beaulieu, was proud to present Triana, now a U.S. citizen, with a check for $1,000.

Triana is a student at Dalton State College with the goal of becoming a doctor.
