Painesville, Ohio—Three Avery Dennison Performance Tapes pressure-sensitive adhesive products—FT 8905, FT 8375 and FT 8325—have received FloorScore certification based on the results of an independent assessment conducted by SCS Global Services.

Developed by the Resilient Floor Covering Institute (RFCI), together with SCS, FloorScore is a program that tests and certifies hard surface flooring and floor adhesive products for their compliance with the strict indoor air quality (IAQ) emission requirements. Laboratory testing ensures the products do not emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs) above thresholds set by the California Department of Public Health.

Products were tested for VOC emissions by SCS partner lab, Eurofins. Eurofins is accredited globally to ISO/IEC 17025, demonstrating quality assurance for SCS and Eurofins customers. The reliability and accuracy of Eurofins data, in concert with the leadership certification standards for which SCS is known, helps many clients, specifiers and other purchasers make informed decisions on risks and meet increasingly stringent quality and safety standards and the demands of regulatory authorities around the world.

“We are very pleased the pressure-sensitive adhesive products we submitted met the FloorScore testing qualifications,” said Kevin Rinehart, product manager, building and construction, Avery Dennison Performance Tapes. “As more emphasis is put on IAQ requirements and regulations, we see pressure-sensitive adhesives becoming more prevalent, and an alternative to many of the high-VOC liquid adhesives currently being used in carpet and resilient flooring applications.”

Products bearing the FloorScore label meet the IAQ emissions criteria of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), Collaboration for High Performance Schools (CHPS), the Green Guide for Health Care and a variety of other healthy building programs.

These installation tapes, designed for flooring applications requiring permanent adhesion between resilient flooring and subfloor, are double-coated and feature a low VOC acrylic adhesive with biocide providing a permanent bond to most subfloor materials and flooring backings. These products are ideal for use in commercial, institutional and multi-family residential flooring installations where immediate use of the floor after installation is essential for faster construction resulting in less labor costs.
