Sumerduck, Va.—L&M Carpet One Floor & Home in Mechanicsville, Va., recently installed flooring to help complete a “smart home” for Cpl. Larry Bailey. The home was built through Building for America’s Bravest (BFAB), a proud program of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, and marks the 32nd completed home since Carpet One Floor & Home partnered with Building for America’s Bravest in 2014.

In 2007, Bailey enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He showed his commitment to others while deployed as a senior machine gunner in Afghanistan. When an enemy attack caused a fellow service member to be injured, Bailey immediately provided cover fire that allowed the Marines to transport their comrade to safety.

In 2011, Bailey and his unit were ambushed by small arms and machine-gun fire that killed a fellow Marine. While trying to repel the assault, Bailey struck an improvised explosive device (IED) and was injured, resulting in the amputation of both legs above the knee and loss of his left hand. Bailey received the Purple Heart for his combat wounds.

“What an honor it has been to be a part of the home built for Cpl. Larry Bailey,” said Matt Shelton, sales manager at L&M Carpet One Floor & Home. “This new home will never repay the sacrifice that Bailey and his fellow Marines have made for our country. However, our hope is that this ‘smart home’ will allow the Baileys to live comfortably and to make wonderful memories for years to come. Our family and business could not be more grateful for the opportunity that we had to be a part of such a worthy cause. We will forever hold a place in our hearts for Larry, his family and our military.”

Carpet One Floor & Home has committed to install the flooring, provided by Mohawk Industries, for all homes built through the Building for America’s Bravest program. The cooperative of independent retailers has also supported the program through fundraising events and will be participating at the upcoming T2T 5K organized by the Stephen Siller Tunnel To Towers Foundation.
