Mohawk’s SmartStrand passes messy test

HomeNewsMohawk’s SmartStrand passes messy test

CHARLESTON, S.C.—Tennis fans at the recent Family Circle Cup tournament here threw everything they could at Mohawk SmartStrand carpet with DuPont Sorona renewably sourced polymer. Literally.

The mill presented Mohawk Family Night at the tournament, treating kids 16 and under to free admission and letting every- one in attendance take their best shots at SmartStrand carpet during the “Mess-Makers Challenge,” with events like “Bowling for Disaster,” and “Red Punch Relay.” But it wasn’t a problem for the carpet. After the fun, Chip Wade, TV star and Mohawk’s handyman, led an on-site clean up of the broadloom, with just water and mild cleaners.

“This was a great opportunity to show people you can truly live on this carpet,” said David Duncan, vice president of marketing for Mohawk. “SmartStrand handles even the toughest daily stains, cleans up easily, and—with built-in, lifetime stain protection that won’t wash or wear off—comes back for more.” One of the richest and most traditional events in women’s professional tennis, the Family Circle Cup attracts more than 90,000 people to watch many of the world’s best players, including Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova.

The mill demonstrated the durability of SmartStrand by carpeting the stadium entrance and exit walkways, subjecting it to tremendous foot traffic and soiling over the course of the week.

Each night, the SmartStrand carpet was cleaned (except for one strip, which was used to show the soil accumulated) showcasing its high-traffic resiliency and stain protection that doesn’t wear off.

And, throughout the week, Mohawk provided website, Twitter, and Facebook updates about the tournament and the performance of SmartStrand carpet.
