INDIANAPOLIS—Midwest distributor Erickson’s Flooring & Supply recently held a series of educational conferences at its Michigan, Indiana and Illinois locations. The meetings offered training in three classes: dustless and handscraped refinishing, Green 101, and Key Business Techniques, including classes on VOC regulation changes and the EPA’s lead-safe law and certification requirements. With the support of 34 vendors and sponsors, the distributor trained a total of more than 200 people.

“We originally started doing them back in 1993 as a way to bring value to our customers and provide much needed industry training,” said David Powell, marketing director. “Very few distributors offer the type of training we do in their local markets. NWFA recognizes this and awards everyone who attends with one educational credit toward its degree programs.”

The Green 101 classes, taught by Powell; Tino Couto, Laura Lapierre and Ron Starkey of Torlys; Tony Miraldi of Somerset and Tom Bieberitz of North Wood covered a basic introduction to LEED, FSC and SFI certification programs, the Lacey Act, VOC coating regulation changes, EPA lead-safe regulations, certification requirements, and green flooring products, including wood, cork and leather.

The Dustless Refinishing & Refinishing Handscraped classes, taught by Jim Yoder and Enos Farnsworth of Basic Coatings, featured the company’s Tykote dustless refinishing

system for prefinished and previously finished floors of all types, while the handscraped session, presented by Ceno’s Bob Moffett and Erickson’s Rob Landback, showcased Ceno’s Satellite buffer system with dust containment “as a quick, efficient way to refinish all types of finished floors.”
