New York—Lissa Wyman, founder of Rugnews.com and a rug industry icon, died Nov. 18 at her home in Manhattan. At her side was her husband and business partner Bud Wyman, who is planning a memorial service to be announced at a later date.

Wyman would have celebrated her 71st birthday on Dec. 16.

A 44-year veteran of the floor covering news business, Wyman began her career in New York covering the carpet beat for Home Furnishings Daily, which later became HFN. She was rug editor for several other publications over the years, including Floor Covering Weekly and Furniture/Today. Wyman founded Rugnews.com in 2000, and pioneered web-based news coverage of the rug industry.

Bud Wyman posted a message to Rugnews.com readers that read in part:

“It is with great sorrow that I bring you the news of the death of my beloved wife and business partner, Lissa Wyman. Lissa passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 18, following a long illness which, as many of you know, she battled bravely for the past few years.

He said Lissa Wyman’s longtime friend and co-worker, Carol Tisch, will take the helm at Rugnews.com. He invited friends in the industry to share their comments on her on Rugnews.com.
