Las Vegas—The winners of the sixth annual Worst Subfloor contest were announced at a special Schönox ÖN IT Hour event here during The International Surface Event 2020.

This year’s judges—Sim Crisler, Peter Craig, Lew Migliore and Paul Pleshek—said the competition was fierce and especially difficult to narrow down the contenders. More than 500 pictures were submitted for this year’s contest, representing 950,000 square feet in project space.

“This contest continues to grow year-over-year,” said Thomas Trissl, HPS Schönox principal. “We saw subfloors in every condition you can imagine with entry submissions coming from all over the country. We always look forward to seeing how our products help people take on these tough projects.” Following are the winners of the sixth annual Worst Subfloor contest:

Project details:
To achieve the proper subfloor conditions, all of the concrete material had to be removed from the metal stair pans. The metal pans were then primed with SHP and poured with S1500. The pans were also dammed on the front nosing to allow for an additional 3⁄8-inch of pour to the existing riser height to accommodate for differences in floor elevations between the two floors the stairs linked.

The main corridor/lobby floors had to be poured in two to three phases to balance existing floor elevation at the adjoining office and bathroom space. The total depth of the pour ranged from 5⁄8-inch to 1-inch throughout the space.
