America’s Floor Source acquires JP Flooring

Columbus, Ohio—America’s Floor Source (AFS) has acquired JP Flooring, a long-established flooring retailer in Cincinnati. The acquisition includes JP’s 100,000-square-foot facility in West Chester, Ohio, which consists of a warehouse, office space and an award-winning showroom.

“By adding the JP team to the AFS family, we will solidify our presence in Cincinnati,” said Jason Goldberg, founder and CEO of AFS.

AFS operates in Columbus, Cincinnati, Indianapolis and Louisville. The current AFS location in Cincinnati is primarily focused on serving area homebuilders and wholesale customers. Goldberg said the JP Flooring location in West Chester will remain open and become the Cincinnati hub for all AFS operations. “I’m beyond excited to be gaining the experience and passion of everyone from JP Flooring,” Goldberg said. “We are fully prepared to learn from one another as we work together to continue satisfying customers and achieving some very lofty goals.”

Phil Schrimper, president and founder of JP Flooring, explained his decision to sell, and specifically why he eventually chose AFS as the purchaser: “Over the years, I’ve been approached by other companies to buy JP Flooring, but either the timing wasn’t right or it wasn’t someone I wanted to entrust my company to. When Jason called, things were different. It’s the right time in my life to slow down a little bit and enjoy time with my family. And more importantly, Jason is the right person. He has the energy and AFS has the processes and infrastructure to help JP move on to the next chapter in its development. At the end of the day, I trust Jason and the AFS team to be good stewards of what we started here over 33 years ago.”

Prior to the acquisition, AFS employed 294 people across three states. 2021 projected annual revenue is $130 million. In business since 1988, JP Flooring has 60 employees, all working out of the West Chester location. JP’s 2021 revenue is projected to be $30 million. Across its four markets, AFS serves a variety of different audiences—including homebuilders, homeowners, property management companies, wholesale customers and commercial construction companies and developers.

In addition to the West Chester showroom and design center, Goldberg said he also intends to roll out a small fleet of Mobile Floor Source vehicles to enable homeowners to confidently shop from the comfort of their homes. “In other markets, especially Columbus, retail has grown into an important part of our business,” he said. “And with the addition of the spectacular JP Flooring Design Center, we’ll be able to instantly do the same thing in Cincinnati. But the Design Center is for more than just retail customers. Custom homebuilders will also be able to bring in their clients to make selections for their new homes.”
