SALISBURY, N.C.—Walk-On Products recently launched a new line called Curebond, a 9-pound, high-quality premium carpet pad featuring a 2mm pink moisture barrier and non-woven, moisture-resistant bottom. Curebond is also hypoallergenic, made with soy and is eco-friendly.

“Consumers today are looking for more than just a quality product,” said Jeff Moose, Walk-On’s vice president. “They want to feel like their purchases are also going to help the world in some way. We are introducing Curebond to bring awareness about a disease that has affected one in eight women. Early detection of breast cancer offers the best chance for survival.”

A portion of the sale of each roll of Curebond carpet padding (approximately 1%) will be donated to organizations involved in breast cancer research and awareness, including the Susan G. Komen Foundation. “Charlotte, N.C., is the recipient of our donations from the sale of Curebond. The national foundation has a company in the flooring category (Mohawk). Due to this conflict we chose to market the product generically. The goal is to find a cure for breast cancer. We intend for this to be a permanent product,” Moose said.

He also stated that Curebond is the first product to be introduced as part of a broader initiative by the company to bring carpet padding to the forefront in carpet stores. In its current location since 2002, Walk-On has also enlisted the services of marketing firm Miller Davis to develop a new website—walkonproducts.com—and point-of-purchase materials for Curebond.

“It’s time for carpet padding to be brought out from under the sales desk,” Moose said. “We hope to change the way padding is marketed by providing retailers with tools to assist consumers in making buying decisions.”

According to Moose, carpet padding is often an afterthought that is not given much consideration. A good quality pad, he says, can extend the life of carpet while improving R-values.

Billy Moose, president of Walk-On and patriarch of the family-run business, started in the 1970s with sheet metal work, which evolved into manufacturing equipment for the foam industry. From that, he began to build equipment specifically for the carpet padding industry. “Much of the equipment designed and built by my father is still in use today,” Jeff Moose said.
