PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y.—Safavieh has purchased its first distribution center on the West Coast, a 150,000-square-foot facility in Fontana, Calif., which will provide 1 million square feet of warehouse space as well as significantly increase the speed of drop shipments to consumers in the region, company officials said.

In January, Safavieh added a distribution center in LaSalle, Ontario, to serve the company’s growing base of retailers in Canada. It also has facilities here as well as in Easton, Pa.

“Speed and efficiency will be greatly improved by splitting inventory in locations on the East and West coasts, which is particularly important for Western state retailers in all channels,” said Arash Yaraghi, principal, Safavieh. “The move is particularly significant for smaller dealers west of the Mississippi, because these customers are as concerned about shipping costs as they are about speed of delivery. Our customers in Western states will see their freight rates significantly reduced.”

The company said it drop-ships thousands of packages daily to end-use customers on behalf of retailers in all 50 states, Canada, South America, Europe and Asia. Yaraghi added that the company has the ability to ship product within three days, and the new distribution centers will expand its warehouse levels to provide immediate delivery on more than 1,000 programmed designs, each in more than eight sizes and several color schemes.
