HomeNewsSURFACES and CFI offer certification at 2013 show

Dallas — Surfaces and the International Certified Floorcovering Installers (CFI) are enhancing their partnership by providing floorcovering installers the opportunity to earn their carpet installation certification at the 2013 show being held January 29-31 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV. This is the first time that CFI has offered this certification at Surfaces.

“CFI is very appreciative of the opportunity to share ideas and techniques that will make a carpet installer’s work more productive and always provide customer satisfaction,” said Jim Walker, CEO, CFI. “We invite installers from all over to register and be a part of the first group to be certified at Surfaces 2013.”

The CFI Carpet Installation Training and Certification will be held on Tuesday, January 29 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and Wednesday, January 30 from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm. The sessions will feature some of the industry’s top installation trainers sharing their expertise on topics such as seam construction, power- stretching techniques, pattern alignment, stair upholstery, direct glue installation, substrate preparation and carpet backings. The two-day program focuses on hands-on, skills training and knowledge for carpet installers.

Two years of active experience is required to apply for CFI Residential-I and Commercial-I Certification. However, those with a minimum of six months or more of experience may attend and receive a CFI Certificate of Training. The CFI Carpet Study Guide needed to prepare for the event is available online at www.cfiinstallers.com. The majority of the training involves a hands-on skills workshop, but also includes demonstrations, an oral review and written test.

To apply for certification, the installer must submit proof of two-years of active installation experience. Installers must register at www.surfaces.com. The cost of the program is $495 and includes Exhibits Only or Exhibits with Education registration. The event is limited to 20 attendees, so register early. CFI and the sponsors of the certification-training program will provide all tools and installation materials. Sponsors of the program include: Best Tape, Healthier Choice, ITW Industrial Fastening, MAPEI, and Wagner Meters. Lunch will be provided both days.

“CFI Certified Installers will receive an ID badge, certificate and decals as well as great gifts donated by supporting sponsors,” added Walker. “Participating in this training and certification program will elevate your career and put you in a very elite status of floor covering professionals.”
