Las Vegas—Durkan, the hospitality brand of Mohawk Group, was awarded the top product design award in the Carpeting/Carpet Systems/Rugs category for its Traces collection at the 2016 Hospitality and Design Expo and Conference (HD Expo) held here May 4-6. The annual HD Expo is the premier trade show for the hospitality design industry.

The IIDA/HD Annual Product Design Competition honors innovation, function and aesthetic advancements in the hospitality industry. This is the second consecutive year Durkan captured top honors in this annual competition.

Designed by Stacy Garcia, Traces’ visuals take cues from sedimentary rock forms and arid lands with a palette of soft beiges complemented by browns and cool greys. The new product utilizes Durkan’s Definity and Synthesis manufacturing technologies. Mark Page, Durkan’s senior director of color and design, explained Synthesis technology is specially engineered for hospitality designers and clients who aim to create an exceptional guest experience. Styles from the collection are also available in Durkan’s precision dye injected (PDI) and computer yarn placement (CYP) constructions.

This year’s HD Expo saw Durkan’s largest launch in company history with 16 innovative collections across a variety of flooring categories, including broadloom, carpet tile, hardwood selections, luxury vinyl tile and rugs. Durkan’s product offering provides solutions for every application within the hospitality environment including lobbies, corridors, meeting spaces, guest rooms, ballrooms and other specialty areas. As part of Durkan’s comprehensive flooring solutions, its products are designed to coordinate seamlessly with Mohawk Group hard surfaces and Daltile’s ceramic offerings.

“As our carpet collections continue to evolve, offering a wide range of floor design solutions, it is only natural that we also expand our hard surface offering, making the flooring selection process and coordination easier than ever for our hospitality customers,” Page noted.
