Green Builder MediaCalhoun, Ga.—Mohawk’s ultimate performance hardwood, UltraWood, has been chosen as a Green Builder Sustainable Product of the Year. Formerly known as the Hot 50, Green Builder Media said the award recognizes products that make the home a better place to be. The Sustainable Products of the Year selections represent today’s most innovative products that make homes more efficient, resilient, intelligent, healthy and safe, according to the company.

“Mohawk is honored to have received yet another notable recognition from Green Builder Media,” said Seth Arnold, vice president of marketing, hard surface. “UltraWood encompasses everything that they believe in and more, providing the utmost quality for consumers and their homes. We are so excited and grateful to be featured as a Product of the Year for 2022.”

According to Mohawk, ultimate performance flooring is not just about durability and cleanability; it is also about maximizing the enjoyment of natural hardwood while minimizing the impact on the environment. Mohawk’s UltraWood is said to be naturally sustainable, provide 10 times more flooring than natural hardwood and use 90% recycled wood.

UltraWood is also said to remove carbon from the air and store it in a long-lasting floor. “As trees grow, they sequester carbon,” Arnold continued. “When the tree is turned into UltraWood, the carbon stays locked away in the finished materials.”

Additionally, the UltraWood manufacturing process delivers 10 times more natural hardwood per log when compared to traditional hardwood flooring production, according to the company. For instance, in a 2,500-square-foot home, it only takes 2.5 logs to floor the entire space with UltraWood compared to 25 logs to floor the entire space with traditional wood.

With Mohawk’s recycling platform opening new opportunities to create and support an emerging circular flooring economy, 90% of the wood used to create the impact resistant boards of UltraWood is recycled from post-industrial wood.

UltraWood is domestically produced at the company’s Danville facility in Virginia, reducing the carbon footprint and contributing to the local community. UltraWood is also SCS FloorScore certified. The FloorScore Indoor Air Quality Certification ensures that a flooring has been independently certified by SCS to comply with the volatile organic compound emissions criteria of the California Section 01250 Program.
