Amid higher consumer expectations and rising industry standards, flooring adhesives manufacturers have rolled out innovative enhancements and even brand-new iterations to boost performance and ease of use. Flooring adhesives suppliers are pulling out all the stops and showcasing new formulations designed to go the extra mile to improve flooring installations.
Following is an overview of some of the latest flooring adhesives hitting the market.
Gription, the latest innovative adhesive product from Henry—an Ardex brand—is designed for installing a wide range of vinyl flooring and carpet tiles in both residential and commercial environments. Gription, a solvent-free, acrylic, polymer-based adhesive, is designed to receive flooring in a dry-to-the-touch or semi-wet state. This is particularly useful in repositioning sheet products.
SikaBond T17 is a one-component, low-odor, moisture-cured polyurethane adhesive for full surface bonding of wood flooring. SikaBond-T17 will tenaciously bond wood to most surfaces, including concrete, plywood and leveling and patch underlayments that have been properly prepared.
SikaBond T17 may be used to bond all engineered wood flooring, solid flat-milled shorts and solid shorts designed by the manufacturer for glue-down applications. This adhesive can also be used for many other bonding applications that are common for light commercial and residential applications, including acoustic rubber underlayment systems.
Schönox offers Emiclassic Premium, a universal, non-latex, pressure-sensitive adhesive for all flexible floor coverings. Emiclassic is ideal for installing vinyl, linoleum, synthetic rubber and other popular flexible coverings. Schönox Emiclassic is available in a 4 gallon bucket and a new 1.25 gallon option—the latter of which is ideal for installations in smaller, confined spaces, making it ideal for multi-family applications.
M400 Endura-Tac, a premium universal flooring adhesive from Stauf USA, is designed for wood, rubber, vinyl and practically all materials that require permanent adhesion to any substrate or surface. M400 may also be utilized for all glue-assist applications for hardwood flooring installations. The product retains a very high shear strength when cured and yet remains elastomeric to allow for seasonable changes in which expansion and contraction may occur. Once cured, M400 is waterproof; it’s also suitable for radiant-heated subfloors.
Taylor Adhesives introduced Ironwood Glue Assist for hardwood floors. Ironwood Glue Assist is packaged in a new, 20-ounce “sausage” tube and is designed to reduce friction squeaks common with nail/staple-down installations. Other features/benefits include: wet set, early grab and fast curing times for rapid occupancy. The product is also non-staining, waterproof and free of solvents and isocyanates. Featuring an elastomeric bond, the product is extremely low in VOCs and odor and contributes to LEED v4 credits.
Taylor also offers a new adhesives repair kit designed for engineered wood floors. The kit contains a one-quart bottle of Repair adhesive, one 60cc plastic syringe, two metal applicator tips, two drill bits, eight dowels and one dowel punch.
