St. Louis—The National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) recently participated in the Hardwood Federation’s annual Fly-In to Wash-ington. The group met with more than 40 members of Congress to discuss issues affecting the hardwood industry, including the Boiler MACT regulations, the Lacey Act, LEED certification and NWFA’s Responsible Procurement Program.

Boiler MACT legislation is an issue that will affect every facet of the wood flooring supply chain, according to Michael Martin, CEO, NWFA. “The impact of this regulation would be far-reaching in our industry and has the potential to shut down many mills, at least temporarily, as they reconfigure their operations to meet the new requirements. This would cause production delays and lead to price increases as well as lack of supply in an already struggling industry.”

NWFA members participating in the event included Martin, chairman Rick Holden of Derr Flooring, past chairman Don Finkell of Anderson Hardwood Floors, Sprigg Lynn of Universal Floors, Wayne Cotton of J.J. Haines & Co., Elizabeth Baldwin of Metropolitan Hardwood Floors, John Clark of Cherrybark Flooring, Vito Luppino of VAL Floor, Jack Shannon of J.T. Shannon Lumber Co. and Bruce Zwicker of J.J. Haines.

The Hardwood Federation is a coalition of more than 30 associations, including the NWFA, and represents the interests of the U.S. hardwood industry.
