Los Angeles—Bentley announced the Silver certification of its carpet tile and broadloom products by the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute. The carpet manufacturer’s certified products include NexStep Cushion Tile and Afirma Hard-Back Tile, as well as the Bentley’s High Performance PC broadloom selection.

“We’re proud and excited to announce our Cradle to Cradle tile and broadloom certifications,” said Holly DeBrodt, Bentley director of sustainability. “We know this certification is the next step toward greater product transparency and process improvement.”

The Cradle to Cradle certified program is a multi-attribute green label that assesses product safety for health and the human environment, guides design for the future, and leads manufacturers toward continuous environmental improvement. To achieve Cradle to Cradle Silver certification, Bentley products were evaluated according to material health, material reutilization, renewable energy and carbon management, water stewardship, and social fairness.

Announced in conjunction with the beginning of Greenbuild 2013, this certification is a testament to Bentley’s commitment to sustainability philosophies and practices. The Southern California brand has been nationally recognized as an environmental leader for two decades as the only carpet company to manufacture in a LEED-EBOM Gold-certified facility and the first to utilize renewable energy from an on-site photovoltaic system.

Through material transparency, environmental education, and community engagement, Bentley strives to enable their customers to make the most informed specification decisions possible about the health and safety of their products and processes.

“We are very pleased to be able to add this certification to our line of products,” said Ralph Grogan, Bentley president and CEO. “It is important for Bentley to assure our clients that our products meet the highest of environmental standards in the industry. Our Cradle to Cradle certification gives them that assurance.”
