Chicago—The Spa Lobby vignette designed by Healing Environments and sponsored by Crossville for the 2016 Coverings Expo Installation Design Showcase won first place in the “Contract Project by a Small Firm” category at the 2016 ASID Illinois Design Excellence Awards. Healing Environments founders Susan and Tarik El-Naggar, pictured at left, accepted the award at a gala event held at Chez in Chicago.

The project featured a range of Crossville tile collections incorporated into Healing Environment’s biophilic design. Every element was specified to create a soothing, modern space that would promote “healing to the mind, body and spirit,” according to Susan El-Naggar, ASID, NCIDQ, LEED Green Associate, and principal interior designer for Healing Environments.

“We were very excited to work with Crossville, since it’s the first manufacturer to earn Green Squared certification for all its U.S.-made collections—the recognized sustainability standard in the industry,” states El-Naggar.

The annual Coverings Expo Installation Design Showcase is a real-time installation event in which crews of experienced installers converge to bring artfully designed vignettes into reality, all while show attendees stroll by to watch the work unfold. For the Crossville-sponsored Spa Lobby, Trostrud Mosaic & Tile served as the installation company. The Trostrud team worked with a range of products including Laminam by Crossville porcelain tile panels to bring the winning vignette to life.
