NEW CASTLE, PA.— Sander Rubenson, founder and former president of carpet distributor Reuben-Lloyd Co., died April 1 at his home here. He was 88.
Born Feb. 26, 1922, Rubenson served in the Army Medical Corps during WWII in Germany and France.
Rubenson opened the Reuben-Lloyd Co. with his father in 1954. He sold the business to Pennsylvania Floor Covering in 1996 following his retirement. Along with being a successful businessman, Rubenson is remembered as instrumental in the creation of Temple Hadar Israel in New Castle, where he served on the synagogue’s board of directors until his passing.
“As a businessman, my father was hard-working and very ethical,” said Rubenson’s daughter, Lynn. “He was fair- minded and treated everyone with respect and dignity. Essentially, he was the same man both at work and in his personal life. He was down-to-earth and had a great sense of humor.” Rubenson is survived by his two daughters, Lynn and Janis; two grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and one grand-grand niece. He was preceded by his wife, Shirley, and brother, George.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Rubenson’s honor to Temple Hadar Israel, 403 E. Moody Ave., New Castle, PA 16105; or the American Diabetes Association, Suite 602, 300 Penn Center Blvd., Pittsburgh, PA 15235.
