NSF-140 certification streamlined for EnviroCel, BioCel backing systems

HomeNewsNSF-140 certification streamlined for EnviroCel, BioCel backing systems

Dalton—Universal Textile Technologies (UTT), supplier of performance-based, environmentally friendly carpet backings, has announced their UTT BioCel, EnviroCel and EnviroCel Home backing systems have been third party verified by UL Environment, a wholly owned subsidiary of Underwriters Laboratories (UL), as meeting the requirements and criteria that a backing supplier needs for a NSF 140 certification. This important step will allow carpet manufactures to utilize UTT carpet backing that is already UL verified. This will mean less time and less paperwork by carpet manufacturers as they apply for full NSF 140 certification with UL Environment.

What this means for the industry

The significance of this news is that companies who choose UTT’s elite range of carpet backings will be that much closer to making a finished product that can itself be classified NSF-140 certified. This is especially important as purchasers become increasingly educated about environmental concerns and demand products that reflect reduced environmental impacts.

“UL Environment is excited to be working with UTT to make sustainable product certification easier for carpet manufacturers,” said Chris Nelson, director of Global Commercial Development, UL Environment. “This completed project will enable those seeking NSF 140 certification through UL Environment to pursue expedited certification when using the UTT carpet backing.”

UTT’s verified NSF-140 ready status extends to its BioCel, EnviroCel, and EnviroCel Home product lines.
