Kährs’ has new LEED certified warehouse

Home News Kährs' has new LEED certified warehouse

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FLA.—In 2010 Kährs moved its main distribution center from Kalmar to Nybro where, in cooperation with Skanska, the company built a new 200,000 square foot warehouse, which has been certified as LEED Silver. The first warehouse in Scandinavia to be certified by LEED, the building holds almost 2 million square feet of flooring and is heated with biofuel byproducts from the Kährs’ factory.

Additional savings have been made by using low-energy lighting, district heating from our wood waste and reducing the number of trucks. The relocation of the warehouse is also calculated to remove approximately 1,800 truck trips between Kalmar and Nybro every year. Company executives said the changes will help Kährs reach its goal of reducing climate impact and improving eco-efficiency.
