J+J/Invision receives BREEAM certification for 22 products

HomeNewsJ+J/Invision receives BREEAM certification for 22 products

Dalton, Ga.– J+J/Invision announced Monday that it has received BREEAM Certification for 22 modular styles featuring its eKo modular backing system. Each of these products received highly rated Certified Environmental Profiles using BRE Global’s Environmental Profiles Methodology, a life cycle assessment that measures a product’s cradle-to-grave impact.

United Kingdom-based BRE Global provides independent third-party certification for building materials through Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment (BREEAM), the world’s longest established and most widely used environmental assessment method for buildings. BREEAM is heavily used in European markets as the green building rating standard. Products earning Certified Environmental Profiles can be found online in BRE Global’s Green Guide to Specification.

“With the continued demand for sustainable building practices, Certified Environmental Profiles provide reliable and comparable environmental information about competing building materials. Third-party certifications allow specifiers and designers to confidently select J+J/Invision products with specific environmental ratings that can then be used when developing projects using BREEAM’s building schemes,” said Russ DeLozier, Director of Sustainability at J&J Industries. “Specifying environmentally friendly products is more involved than relying on any single attribute. J+J is committed to reducing our impact by taking a holistic perspective that looks at our product from multiple environmental angles.. Certified Environmental Profiles are just one more way to make intelligent environmental decisions.”

Products certified through the BREEAM system are scored on an A+ to E ranking system, where A+ represents the best environmental performance/least environmental impact, and E the worst environmental performance/most environmental impact. The final ratings are based on EcoPoints, which are a measure of a product’s overall environmental profile under 13 impact categories. These categories include such elements as: climate change, water extraction, waste disposal and fossil fuel depletion. A higher EcoPoint indicates higher environmental impact.

The 22 J+J/Invision BREEAM certified products featuring the eKo modular backing system represent seven categories of fiber types and product weights. Each product was scored based on use in four building types – Commercial Offices, Healthcare, Education, and Retail – meaning that each product could conceivably receive four different ratings based on the criteria for each category. Of the 88 potential scores for these 22 product styles, all received scores of B or higher and 81% received an A or A+ rating. Across all products receiving certification, the lowest EcoPoint received was 0.42 and the highest was 0.83. Ecopoints for each of the certified products will be available at www.greenbooklive.com.

With sustainability at the forefront of its process, J+J/Invision utilizes third-party certifications to provide independent verification of environmental claims. J+J/Invision offers three advanced performance backing systems that are NSF/ANSI Standard 140 Certified. All J+J/Invision carpets, adhesives and seam sealers, including all GSA approved products, comply with the Carpet and Rug Institute’s Green Label Plus Testing Program for Indoor Air Quality. Additionally, all J+J/Invision carpet is manufactured in an ISO 14001:2004 certified facility.
