Dalton – Veteran textile designer Susan Curtis has been named vice president of product and marketing development for Dobbs Mills, where she will be responsible for both the Phenix and Looptex brands. In her new role, Curtis will apply over 25 years of experience in the flooring industry to the two residential broadloom carpet lines, which are sold in specialty retail and home center channels, respectively, throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Curtis comes to Dobbs Mills from The Mohawk Group, where she served as senior director of color and design. Before joining Mohawk, she supervised product development for Invista and held the positions of creative director at Atlas Carpet Mills and director of product development at Bentley Carpet Mills.

As VP of product and marketing development, Curtis will report to Mark C. Clayton, CEO and president of Dobbs Mills. He comments, “[Curtis] has had a tremendous career in the flooring industry. We are confident that her exceptional experience, particularly as it relates to design, development and marketing, will be extremely beneficial to the Phenix and Looptex lines as we manage the growth of an ever-increasing, complex product and color portfolio.”

He continues, “[Curtis] has a proven reputation for being able to offer beautiful design while not sacrificing economic reasoning, which is crucially important to the Phenix and Looptex brands.”

Curtis comments, “The true value of design is achieved when you marry market needs and manufacturing capabilities to deliver relevant, beautiful products.  This an exciting time at Dobbs Mills, and I am very pleased to join their organization, bringing my passion for quality design to residential carpet and looking forward to creating fashion-forward products and effectively marketing them to the female consumer.”

Curtis earned Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in Textile Design from Syracuse University and Interior Architecture from California State University, Long Beach.
