Lancaster, Pa.—Armstrong Flooring was chosen in Architectural Record’s annual Best Products competition, which invites a jury of six professional architects and designers to select the best new products of the year, rating for innovation, usefulness and aesthetics.

Armstrong Flooring’s Empower rigid core and MedinPure PVC-free sheet are among the five flooring products selected—the only company to place two products as finalists. This recognition adds to Armstrong’s 2020 award count for Empower and MedinPure, with both products collectively earning five design awards this year.

“We are extremely proud to be recognized by Architectural Record for Best Flooring Products,” said David Thoresen, senior vice president of product and innovation. “To have two products recognized as among the best in 2020 is a testament to the company’s dedication to bringing the most technologically advanced and visually exciting flooring products to market. Seeing ‘Best of’ products recognized on both the residential and commercial sides of the business is gratifying, and speaks to our versatility in producing quality products steeped in design, performance and innovation.”

MedinPure PVC-free with Diamond 10 Technology coating

MedinPure with Diamond 10 Technology coating is a PVC-free homogeneous vinyl sheet alternative that is said to integrate science, technology and design to advance quality of care in healing environments. Its patent-pending formulation—including coordinating PVC-free weld rods for aseptic areas—is shaping the future of resilient flooring, the company said. The MedinPure palette, full of aqueous blues, vibrant greens and complementary tones, is designed to invoke a sense of calm through its intentional design that draws on biophilic inspiration. Its Diamond 10 Technology coating is a no-polish, low-maintenance solution that offers category-leading scratch, stain, scuff and slip resistance that’s vital in the health care community, the company said. MedinPure is free of ortho-phthalates, halogens, isocyanates and Red List chemicals of concern.

Empower rigid core

Empower rigid core flooring was built using the company’s new Reinforced Mineral Core (RMC) to provide the best available performance. The new core outperforms traditional rigid core products in both indent and stability while remaining 100% waterproof, the company said, and its exclusive Diamond 10 Technology coating provides best-in-class scratch and stain protection to allow maximum flexibility when choosing residential resilient flooring.
