WOFB: Finding my spark in the support of others

WOFBThe flooring industry can feel pretty intimidating when you’re just starting out, especially in a field traditionally dominated by men. That’s why groups like Women of the Flooring Business (WOFB) are so important. For me, being part of this community has been an incredible way to connect with other women who really get it.

WOFB is a group made up of women from all corners of the flooring industry, such as business owners, installers, designers, manufacturers or marketers. It’s a space where women can share advice, support one another and celebrate successes. For me, who is newer to the industry, it’s been a place to learn and grow.

I’ve seen how the group brings together a mix of experienced leaders and fresh perspectives, creating a supportive environment where everyone can thrive. In an industry like this, community is vital, and WOFB has been instrumental in giving me the confidence to truly push the business forward.

After the passing of our founder, Kurt Willgues, me and the rest of the team felt unsure of our next steps. Even though Kurt was technically retired when he passed, his presence and willingness to lend a helping hand were invaluable. There’s no way to measure how much more knowledge and guidance he might have shared, but his legacy is deeply felt. Groups like WOFB have helped me navigate the uncertainty, offering support and encouragement when it was needed most.

Starting out in this industry can feel overwhelming, and the challenges are real. But being part of WOFB has made things feel a little less scary. Whether it’s tips on running the business, learning about the latest trends or just hearing how someone else navigated a sticky situation, this group offers so much support.

One of the best things about WOFB is hearing the different journeys that brought women into the flooring industry. For me, it’s inspiring to meet seasoned professionals who’ve built businesses from the ground up and women who’ve broken barriers and used their creativity to wow their clients. Each story is unique, but they all show the passion and determination that women bring to this field.

Right now, I considers myself a “silent member” of the group, soaking in all the wisdom and advice it has to offer. But as I grow in my career, I hope to give back and help guide new women through this industry. I dream of making the path a little smoother for others who are just starting out, just as WOFB has done for me.
