Mohawk’s Meadows cites forces driving the industry

Jeff Meadows, president of Mohawk residential, shares how new technologies and changing tastes are shaping the industry.

  1. From product driven to solution driven

The flooring industry has transformed from being primarily product driven to solution driven. Conversations used to center on price, color and basic durability. Now, homeowners expect flooring to deliver performance, design, sustainability and value all at once. That shift has fundamentally changed how manufacturers innovate.

2. More options than ever

With the expansion of hard surface flooring, consumers now have more options than ever, and categories have evolved well beyond traditional hardwood, laminate and vinyl. New hybrid constructions are redefining what flooring can do by combining waterproof performance, realistic visuals, sustainability and ease of installation into a single product. Rather than asking customers to compromise between aesthetics and functionality, today’s products deliver both.

3. Technology breeds innovation

Technology has accelerated innovation at an unprecedented pace. Advanced manufacturing, digital printing, embossing technologies and improved locking systems have dramatically elevated realism and installation performance, allowing manufacturers to create products that closely replicate natural materials while outperforming them in everyday living.

4. Sustainability at the forefront

Sustainability has become a defining force. What was once a niche conversation is now a core expectation. Manufacturers are investing in recycled materials, domestic production and manufacturing processes that reduce environmental impact without sacrificing quality or performance. At the same time, retailers have evolved from simply selling flooring to helping consumers navigate a much broader set of choices and lifestyle.
