New York — The Buckminster Fuller Institute (BFI) has announced a partnership with Interface to accelerate the development of restorative solutions to some of the most critical issues facing the world today.

Interface is a sponsor of the 2013 Buckminster Fuller Challenge, lauded as ‘socially responsible design’s highest award’, with the intention of investing for the duration of the Challenge’s current five-year cycle. This year, Interface has committed a $100,000 program support sponsorship in an agreement that will ultimately result in a finalist or group of finalists from the Buckminster Fuller Challenge having the opportunity to engage with the sustainability, co-innovation and/or R&D teams at Interface to vet and hone their solutions.

“Although they never met, the synergy between the lives and legacies of Buckminster Fuller and Ray Anderson (founder of Interface) is extraordinary,” said Elizabeth Thompson, executive director of BFI. “It is only fitting that those of us charged with continuing their work partner and collaborate, and we are pleased to make Interface our first corporate sponsor for that reason.”

“As we look to accelerate innovation and progress towards our Mission Zero goals and to honor the legacy of our founder, I can think of no better collaboration than one which will bring new thinking based on whole systems design to our company,” said Daniel T. Hendrix, Interface chairman and CEO.
