Johnson City, Tenn. — Mullican Flooring, a leading U.S. hardwood flooring manufacturer, has an agreement with Swedish company Välinge to apply the company’s 2G locking system in production of Mullican’s engineered products.

Headquartered in Johnson City, Tenn., with manufacturing sites in Virginia, New York and West Virginia, Mullican recently signed a global, non-exclusive license agreement with Välinge to use its patented 2G locking system with fold down installation. The easy, single-action system can be used with floating floors or with glue-down or nail-down installations and is able to produce perfectly aligned rows.

“The Välinge mechanical locking system offers an ease of installation and an appearance that is hard to match in the flooring industry,” says Neil Poland, president of Mullican Flooring. “We’re excited to be applying this technology to our engineered products and look forward to having a long relationship with Välinge going forward.”

Headquartered in Viken, Sweden, Välinge is known for innovative research and development and holds more U.S. and European patents for mechanical locking technology than any other company in the flooring industry.

“It is exciting for us to support Mullican Flooring with its launch of mechanical locking systems from their U.S. manufacturing entities,” notes Niclas Håkansson, chief executive officer at Välinge. “The development was preceded by Mullican having marketed engineered hardwood flooring products from Asia using the Välinge locking systems and reinforces the trend toward more hardwood flooring production in North America with mechanical locking systems.”

Mullican Flooring recently purchased a 309,000-square-foot office, warehouse and manufacturing facility in Johnson City to launch its first Made-in-America engineered flooring. Select lines of the flooring will feature the Välinge locking system.
