Milliken introduces Carpet Landfill Diversion Program

Spartanburg, S.C.— Continuing its century-long heritage of environmental stewardship, Milliken has introduced a new sustainability driver for its customers: Milliken’s Carpet Landfill Diversion Program.  The program provides simple means for customers to divert old carpet from landfills.

The Process

Milliken makes it easy to begin the diversion process – finding the highest form of recovery, including recycling it into new carpet, downcycling into alternative products or donating it to charity.

The process requires customers to request a quote for landfill diversion and submit a minimum 8″ x 8″ sample of carpet to help determine the best specification for recovery.  The customer will receive a quote from Milliken 72 hours after carpet samples and online quote requests are received.

As a founding and active board member of C.A.R.E. (Carpet America Recovery Effort) Milliken’s Carpet Landfill Diversion Program ensures all carpet will be handled in the most  friendly ways, while following all C.A.R.E. guidelines.

Sustainability a Core Commitment

A carbon neutral carpet company, Milliken meets aggressive sustainability goals, including zero waste to landfill, to continuously improve and evolve sustainability practices.  Since introducing the first PVC-free carpet in 1986, Milliken has been working to reduce PVC in floor covering.  This initiative carries through even when acquiring outside brands, such as Constantine.  Because of this, all Milliken commercial tile and broadloom carpets in the U.S. will be PVC free once again in August.

“As manufacturers, we fully embrace our social and environmental responsibilities – and this includes providing services that allow carpet to remain out of landfills,” said David Moody, president of Milliken’s global floor covering division.  “Our products and practices – including our PVC-free floor covering and our newly introduced Carpet Landfill Diversion Program – all reflect Milliken’s desire to deliver innovative solutions and experiences to our customers.”
