Anderson receives Pinchot award for sustainability

HomeNewsAnderson receives Pinchot award for sustainability

HOUSTON—Anderson Hardwood Floors has long been lauded as not only an environmentally responsible manufacturer but for working to make the industry more sustainable, and last month the company’s efforts were recognized with the Hardwood Forestry Fund’s (HFF) Gifford Pinchot Award.

The highly acclaimed award was given by the non-profit HFF to Anderson for outstanding contributions of employees toward advancing conservation interpretation and education, while caring for the land and serving people.

Named after Gifford Pinchot, who was selected by Theodore Roosevelt to establish the U.S. Forest Service, the award is not an annual one. Rather, it is presented only when a manufacturer or individual has achieved the distinction of contributing significant corporate achievements in promoting sustainable forestry.

An HFF spokesperson said the award honors a forest products company that has demonstrated commitment to the environment and “generation after generation of men and trees” through tree planting, sustainable forest conservation and environmental education.

“Nominees for the award demonstrate leadership in addressing management issues, such as climate change, water and the disconnect of children from nature. [They] also exemplify how new technologies, partnerships and creativity can be [effectively] used to provide memorable visitor experiences and learning opportunities.”

The organization noted Anderson is considered “an environmental pioneer within the industry.” In addition Don Finkell, Anderson’s CEO, “leads industry education on the Lacey Act and sustainable forestry.”

In receiving the award, Finkell said the company is “committed to not only the quality of the products we offer, but to the preservation of where they come from. This award is testament to our commitment and it is an honor to receive the prestigious Gifford Pinchot Award for our education, leadership and commitment to sustainable forestry.”
