Hannover, Germany—At CeBIT 2017, under the heading “Mixed Reality Production 4.0,” scientists from the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) will showcase new forms of multi-site human-robot collaboration (HRC). The event will take place March 20-24.

At the stand of the Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) adaptable and trainable lightweight robots will interact with their human and mechanical colleagues at the stand of the DFKI. Together they will perform collaborative assignments for the safe handling of hazardous goods.

Three identical robots at the DFKI stand will be remotely manipulated by an operator at the neighboring BMBF stand with the aid of a HoloLens head-mounted display. In addition, researchers will demonstrate the telemanipulation of two robots (Universal Robotics UR, MiR 100) via a live link with the HRC 4.0 Innovation Lab at the DFKI headquarters in Saarbrücken.

A further topic on the agenda is telemanipulation in the immediate environment. Three robots (an ABB Yumi, a Universal Robotics UR and a MiR 100 mobile robot) will interact at the BMBF stand. The operator will control the actions of the robots in a mixed-reality environment (HoloLens) with the aid of gestures.

On March 22, Mohammad Mehdi Moniri, head of mixed reality development at the DFKI, will provide information on HRC. This lecture will form part of the CeBIT Future Talk program.
