Annual competition benefits charities

Football season is almost here and along with it comes FCNews’ sixth annual Fantasy Football for a Cause league. Registration is now open for individuals and companies to compete against each other for a chance to win $15,000 for their charity or cause of choice.

FCNews’ Fantasy Football for a Cause league is open to floor covering industry members of all experience levels. No fantasy experience is necessary. Every dollar of the proceeds will be donated to charity.

The online draft will be held Sept. 5 at 5 p.m. EST. Those who are unable to make the draft or designate someone to draft their team for them can choose ESPN’s “auto-pick draft” option to accumulate players based on pre-draft rankings. We’ll also manage the league using ESPN. All you need to do is log in each week and choose your starting players. There will also be weekly pickups, so teams can be improved throughout the season.

The league will follow the regular season schedule and end after Week 13. The top six teams will make the playoffs, which are held in weeks 14-16.

The concept is nothing new. Aside from FCNews’ sixth year of Fantasy Football for a Cause, a few celebrities have hosted high-profile fantasy football leagues that raise both awareness and money for a cause. For instance, Jerry Cantrell, guitarist for rock band Alice in Chains, once ran a fantasy football league filled with celebrities. At the beginning of every season each celebrity put items up for auction, and at year’s end the champion chose a charity to receive all of the auction’s proceeds.

Adam Wainwright, the St. Louis Cardinals star pitcher, launched his own charitable fantasy football endeavor in 2013. Wainwright and three of his team- mates fielded one team in their 12-team fantasy league, with the other spots open to anyone who was willing to pay the $2,500 entry fee—100% of which was donated evenly between Operation Food Search and Water Missions International.

This is an excellent opportunity to support and create awareness for a meaningful cause and enjoy some friendly competition, so be sure to reserve your spot. To join, send an email to Dustin Aaronson at dustin@fcnews.net with the following information: your name, company name and charity or cause of choice. We’ll send out payment information once you have expressed interest in joining. The entry fee is $5,000 per fantasy football team.
