Stoddard, N.H.—Carlisle Wide Plank Floors, a leader in wide plank hardwood flooring for residential and commercial spaces, has unveiled a new cross-departmental design collaboration—the Transformative Design Team—that was created to push the boundaries of traditional product development into artistic concept exploration.

The newly formed eight-person team will have the opportunity to envision, conceptualize and share flooring ideas that reflect and express the beauty and diversity of natural hardwood flooring as a foundation for inhabited spaces.

“The approach employed by the team encourages creativity and experimentation to bring freshness at both the product and people level,” said Chris Sy, president of Carlisle Wide Plank Floors. “Team members are able to more deeply experience the many aspects of flooring design, while clients gain even greater confidence in Carlisle’s ability to create flooring that functions as art, as a one-of-a-kind ‘canvas’ for each client’s home, each telling a unique story.”

The Transformative Design Team will explore different finish types, application techniques and color, and how these elements interact with and complement each other to create distinctive floor designs.

For its inaugural project, the team created a finishing process that embraces the many possibilities of color layering, which has become an increasingly popular trend, according to the company. The resulting floor features a vibrant abstract design reminiscent of a Jackson Pollock painting. To create the floor, the team applied different finish types using techniques that ranged from spraying to spackling to simply “spilling” the finish on the floor.

“Not only was the process of creating the floor fun, but it enabled team members to understand more intimately how colors layer over other colors and how different types of finishes react to one another,” Sy noted. “So, this was also a valuable learning experience for the team that will further enhance their skills and craftsmanship as they work to bring to life artisan luxury wood flooring for our clients.”

A producer of handcrafted natural wood flooring for more than 50 years, Carlisle takes a progressive, trend forward approach to design – moving beyond perceived limitations to introduce colors and finishes that set spaces apart.

Added Sy, “Designing a floor from scratch for every customer is not easy to do and something our team excels at. Through the Transformative Design Team, Carlisle is fusing art – and a legacy of impeccable craftsmanship – with luxury wood flooring, helping us to bring even more beautiful designs to our diverse flooring offering.”
