DALTON—The Carpet & Rug Institute (CRI), in collaboration with The Healthy Facilities Institute (HFI), has formed the Healthy Carpet Workgroup. Consisting of experts (end-user and scientific) the group will discuss and report ways to keep carpet healthy in schools through better selection, cleaning and maintenance.

The initial workgroup topic will be “Asthma and Allergies—The Role of Carpet Selection and Care.” Carpet care professionals or those who have other expertise related to asthma and allergies in school environments who complete a short survey will have an opportunity to win a backpack vacuum donated by Pro-Team, and may volunteer to participate in the workgroup. Workgroup participation will be through a listserve in which ideas will be shared via email with all workgroup members. All viewpoints will be considered for inclusion in the final workgroup report to be released in October during the ISSA/InterClean North America trade show in Las Vegas.
