HomeNewsSummer Atlanta International Area Rug Market: New products, experiences to be unveiled

ATLANTA—The world’s largest collection of area rugs will be the centerpiece of the summer edition of the Atlanta International Area Rug Market from July 14 to 17, which overlaps the International Gift & Home Furnishings Market. It gives attendees “unmatched resources across the rug and home product spectrum,” said Chas Sydney, senior vice president of area rug and external business development for AmericasMart, including “resources offered in adjacent home furnishings floors, all in a fully integrated whole-home presentation aligning rug, furniture, accents and fine linens from top manufacturers and importers.”

The Area Rug Center continues as the core of more than two million square feet of home furnishings products, he explained. Enlivening the July market experience is a series of rug-industry featured events and educational programs, including:

“Mix-Amize Profits with Area Rugs,” on July 14 by Andy Fried, business consultant at Kennesaw State University. He will demonstrate how proper pricing strategies are easy to implement and can drive profits.

The Oriental Rug Importers Association (ORIA), CF Rug Auction to benefit ORIA’s charitable fund will have more than 20 rugs donated by ORIA members up for bid July 13 through 15 during market hours.

“Demystifying Area Rugs” on July 15. This panel discussion featuring four of the world’s largest rug makers is designed to help you sell with confidence.

“Knot to be Missed” on July 16 by Phil Menendian, education chairman of the Oriental Rug Retailers Association, will help members pass the CRA exam.

Sydney said market buyers will have every benefit of the world’s largest area rug collection, together with multiple cross-merchandising opportunities all in one place—AmericasMart. The home product resources available in the 15 floors of permanent showrooms offer attendees everything they can imagine in one “easy-to-navigate” area.

“With the most complete product collections,” he concluded, “the ‘Home’ building will be a destination for retailers and designers to discover more merchandise, experience more diverse offerings and select from more options.”
