This is from our friends at Wools of New Zealand. It has all the information on an event celebrating the life and work of Sonna, plus a website established in her honor.

A tribute will be held for Sonna Calandrino on Tuesday, August 17 in Dalton.

Calandrino, a former columnist for Floor Focus magazine and an industry specialist, was well known in the industry.According to event chairperson Ann Seay, former Mohawk Industries executive assistant, “So many people asked what was being done to honor her memory. The next thing you know, there is an ad hoc committee which had coalesced around the idea, and contributions from  major brands and individuals started to come in to help fund an event.”

Plans for the August 17 event call for a reception from 4:00-6:30 p.m. at Trevitt Hall.

There will also be a speaker tribute program from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Wink Theatre.

David Pennington, Mayor of Dalton will greet attendees and provide introductory remarks. More than a dozen top line industry speakers, including Jeff Lorberbaum, chairman of Mohawk Industries; LaShon McGinnis of Shaw Industries; and Nia Cherry, director of industry partnerships for the American Society of Interior Designers are scheduled to participate in what promised to be an industry networking event typical of Sonna.

Additionally, a website www.sonnacalandrino.com has been posted. It features details on the event, a brief bio of Sonna, photos and memorial information.

Funds remaining at the end of the event will be donated to an industry charity which Sonna supported for most of her career, the Floor Covering Industry Foundation.
