PLANT CITY, FLA.—Jim Cuthbertson, a ceramic tile industry veteran who enjoyed a long career with Florida Tile, died Aug. 6, following a short battle with bone cancer. He was 65.
Cuthbertson graduated from the University of South Florida before beginning his lifelong career with Florida Tile in February 1968. “From the factory to the corporate office, Jim worked in and across many departments during his tenure,” said Sean Cilona, director of marketing, “including production supervisor, plant manager, vice president of ceramic centers, director of marketing and customer service, to vice president of sales and marketing.
“His dedicated staff and many customers and colleagues will remember him for his attention to detail and loyalty to Florida Tile,” he added. “Jim was a constant and sturdy figure in the name of the company. Even through turbulent times, customers could always be calmed by his kind words and presence.”
Taking a semi-retirement in 2009, Cuthbertson and wife Brenda moved to Heber City, Utah, to be closer to their sons. “Jim was a mentor, colleague and most of all a friend to the many individuals whose paths he crossed and will be truly missed by all of us here,” Cilona said.
Cuthbertson is survived by his wife of 40 years, Brenda; two sons, Daniel and Timothy; one granddaughter, one brother and two nephews. The family asks donations be made to The Kidney Foundation at kidney.org.
