Troy, Mich. — Michael Reis, the long-time editor of Stone World, passed away suddenly on Feb. 7 while vacationing with close friends in Jamaica.

Reis, who joined Stone World in March 1993, was named editor in 1995 and associate publisher in 1997. During his tenure, Reis launched several products for Stone World, including its bi-weekly eNewsletter, and managed several of its custom publications, including Building Stone Magazine, published with the Building Stone Institute.

Among the honors bestowed on Reis over the years was The Stone Master (Mastro della Pietra) award in 2005 at a ceremony in Verona, Italy; and the Premios Comarca del Marmol, XVII Edicion, which he received in 2001 in Macael, Spain.
