sunshine on a ranney dayCalhoun, Ga.—Sunshine on a Ranney Day, an Atlanta-based nonprofit that renovates rooms for children with special needs, chose Mohawk flooring for two of its latest makeovers—dream bedrooms for Braxton and Kaitlyn.

“Mohawk made it easy to provide Braxton and Kaitlyn with flooring that suited their individual styles and needs,” said Joe Lane, executive director, Sunshine on a Ranney Day. “Along with pulling together each room, the flooring we selected, with its durability and reliability, adds to the sense of independence we are giving these deserving kids. Braxton and Kaitlyn now have safe spaces to unwind after busy days.”

Thirteen-year-old Braxton was born with Spina Bifida/Lipomyelomeningocele and has endured over 14 surgeries to date. Although ambulatory, Braxton’s mobility has lessened over the years. He relies on his wheelchair and other assistive devices to accomplish daily activities. Regardless, Braxton is known as the athlete of his family, playing both wheelchair basketball and competing in adaptive track and field.

Braxton’s bedroom features UltraWood Myerwood Park in Colony Bluff. UltraWood offers Mohawk’s patented WetProtect technology, a lifetime surface and subfloor waterproof warranty, as well as EasyClean technology, Mohawk’s enhanced lacquer resistance against stains and soil buildup. UltraWood also provides Mohawk’s Everlast hardwood protection system, guarding the hardwood veneer against scratches, wear and dents. In 2022, UltraWood was enhanced with CleanProtect—featuring antimicrobial properties built in to protect the floor.

Kaitlyn is a happy and fun-loving, 10-year-old girl. She was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at eight months old and has been in weekly speech, physical and occupational therapy since six months old. She also participates in ABA therapy and intensive robotic therapy. Kaitlyn uses a communication device to communicate, and she uses a power wheelchair at school and community settings and can walk with the support of a gait trainer in her home.

Kaitlyn’s room remodel features SolidTech Founder’s Trace in Cathedral Grey. SolidTech is billed as an impervious waterproof plank suitable for any room. Along with offering waterproof with added WetProtect technology, SolidTech also provides stain, scratch and antimicrobial protection. Additionally, SolidTech features industry-leading protection for all pets, all accidents, all the time.

“Mohawk is thrilled to work with Sunshine on a Ranney Day again to make Braxton and Kaitlyn’s lives at home easier,” said Seth Arnold, vice president of marketing, hard surface. “Our UltraWood and SolidTech products will stand up to their wheelchairs, play, therapy and so much more.”
