Bainbridge Island, Wash.—Teragren announced it has signed an agreement with Abbey Carpet to provide bamboo flooring and countertop products to the buying group’s participating retailers, including Abbey Carpet & Floor, Floors To Go, and The Floor Club with more than 700 retail showrooms in the U.S. and Canada. Teragren’s current distribution network is expected to increase significantly in size as a result of the agreement through their network of top tier flooring distributors.

“As one of the major retail flooring groups in North America, Abbey Carpet has an excellent network of top retailers,” said David Knight, president and CEO, Teragren. “Our bamboo flooring and countertop products will now be available to an even broader consumer audience.”

Under terms of the agreement, Abbey members will have access to Teragren’s eight complete FloorScore certified bamboo flooring product lines, all flooring accessories, and stair parts including their line of bamboo countertops and table tops. The program will formally launch at Abbey’s convention on Feb. 10, 2011 in Reno, Nev.

“Teragren has great brand recognition because their products are of the highest quality,” said David Hardy, executive vice president of merchandising for Abbey.  “As the only FloorScore certified bamboo flooring manufacturer offering a full line of bamboo flooring products in a wide variety of dimensions, colors and price points, Teragren bamboo is also a great alternative to traditional hardwoods for the rapidly growing segment of environmentally-conscious consumers.”

Teragren bamboo meets an increasing demand for green building products, which has grown significantly in recent years. According to McGraw Hill Construction, the U.S. green building market in 2010 is about 33% of new construction compared to about 2% in 2005, and the Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University states in their 2009 publication, “The Remodeling Market in Transition” that consumers’ remodeling decisions are motivated more and more by sustainability.
