Dalton—For the fifth year in a row, Mohawk Industries has been named as one of Training Magazine’s “Top 125” training organizations, ranking in the Top 20 among the Fortune 500 companies reviewed for this past year.

The Training Magazine “Top 125” is considered the most elite ranking among major corporations for Training and Learning Development. To qualify, company training organizations are measured, selected and ranked on both quantitative and qualitative data.  An independent research and statistical data company makes recommendations to the magazine, which selects the winning organizations.

Farmer’s Insurance was the number one ranked company for this year.  Among other organizations included in the winners were Microsoft (9th), Verizon Wireless (4th), McDonalds (24th), CarMax (37th), FedEx (70th), MasterCard (81st), and UPS (103rd).

Mohawk was recognized for a variety of training efforts throughout the year. Mohawk’s learning organizations cross all divisions of Mohawk Industries, including Dal-Tile University, Unilin, Mohawk Home, Logistics, Customer Service, Human Resources, and Mohawk University.

Mike Zoellner, Vice President of Marketing Services, noted that training is particularly valuable to Mohawk’s retail partners in this economy.

“In 2010, we created new tools for managing and improving business,” he said.  “We have partnered with organizations like Franklin Covey and U.S. Learning to give our retailers access to some of the most professional training programs in the nation.  And stores who’ve used them report significant bottom-line results, ranging from better margins to improved closing rates.”

Tim Gray, Director of Mohawk University, said that stores who’ve used the new Mohawk University offerings are reporting business growth they say they wouldn’t have gotten otherwise. “In a blind survey of independent retailers, dealers who participated in at least one Mohawk University class reported 10% better sales than those stores who haven’t,” Gray said.

“I’d invite every retailer in our business to take a close look at what we offer now,” he said.  “It goes way beyond product and sales knowledge.  We have courses that stores can use to make dramatic, immediate gains in profitability and growth.”

Mohawk University, the residential flooring training arm of Mohawk Industries, teaches thousands of people each year how to become experts in different aspects of the floor covering business, covering everything from installation to selling skills to business operations.  Courses can help novices learn the fundamentals, or make seasoned veterans even better.  And it’s all done objectively, with no sales or marketing distractions.
