Seattle—Officers and members of the Alliance for Free Choice & Jobs in Flooring who oppose the petition to increase duties on U.S. imports of Chinese multilayered (engineered) wood flooring will be available at DOMOTEX Asia ChinaFloor 2011 in Shanghai, March 22 to 24, to answer questions regarding this case.

The petition in this case was filed at the U.S. International Trade Commission by a small group of U.S. flooring manufacturers. The petitioners seek to block their American competitors’ access to hardwood flooring from China. They are asking for punitive antidumping tariffs of up to 237% as well as punitive countervailing duties in addition to that because of what they claim are so-called subsidies. The AFCJF represents the American companies who will be injured if the petitioners are successful, including U.S. hardwood timber exporters.

“This case is complicated and American trade remedy laws are confusing, even for Americans,” said Jonathan Train, president of the AFCJF, “and we are looking forward to discussing the case and answering any questions that industry executives have during the DOMOTEX convention.” Train, who is also Vice President of Swiff-Train Company of Houston, Texas, noted that the AFCJF had also provided similar informational briefings for industry leaders at the Surfaces show in Las Vegas in January 2011.

Any persons interested in meeting with the AFCJF members in Shanghai should contact Elizabeth Baldwin, secretary@afcjf.com, or Jonathan Train, president@afcjf.com.
