Google rugs bringing back the Persian

HomeBlogGoogle rugs bringing back the Persian

There are some very cool, new area rugs from designer David Hanauer, who has designed a collection based on Google maps imaging that he calls Worldwide Carpets. His designs are laid out from the center and radiate out to each of the four corners for symmetry that mimics a Persian rug. On his website he states, “Comparing to Persian carpets of former times, Worldwide Carpets interprets ornaments from these times into the 21st century.”

The prints up close are pretty obviously Google Earth images of man-made areas like residential developments.

But from afar, they are very geometric and symmetrical.

The designs are also modular, so much like carpet tiles can be pieced together, his collection can also be installed wall-to-wall or in larger configurations.

This reminds me of a southwestern print, but with a modern twist and a whole lot less orange.
This one, 6th and flower st., is displayed on Hanauer's website as both a stand alone area rug, or pieced together as a runner.

Multiples can also be used to make a larger area rug.
