Varanasi, India—When it comes to rugs, the ones that come from India are the most unique in the world, noted a spokesperson for the India Carpet Expo. This uniqueness will be on display once again during the upcoming 24th India Carpet Expo (ICE), scheduled from Oct. 12 to 15 at the Sampurnanand Sanskrit University Grounds here.

“The Indian carpet industry is so versatile in that it offers all kinds of handmade carpets and rugs to the international market, varying from 20 knots per square inch to over 1,500 knots per square inch in the hand-knotted category” the spokesman said. “Each carpet in and of itself is a piece of art and is a product of the highest in quality craftsmanship.”

India’s Carpet Export Promotion Council is offering a complimentary package to prospective show buyers by subsidizing air travel expenses and providing up to three nights complimentary stay, including breakfast, in a hotel in Varanasi for attending the Expo. Complete details of the complimentary package are available at indiancarpets.com.

The Council is expecting more than 300 manufacturer/exporters from across India to exhibit at the Expo, the spokesperson noted, all of whom will display their range of handmade rugs, carpets and other floor coverings, in addition to many overseas buyers.

Indian craftsman are well versed with the art of weaving Indo-Tibet, Indo-Nepal, handloom, tufted, flat weaves including cotton/wool durries, chenille rugs etc., said the spokesperson. “No other country can match the variety that India offers to its international clientele. The Indian carpet industry is the only one in the world that offers custom made rugs and carpets in which the pattern, color and size are all manufactured according to the requirements of the overseas buyer.”

He added India produces “a unique combination of traditional and modern designs that no other country can boast of, the grandeur of which can be seen around the world in palaces, luxury resorts, homes, hotels and in the corporate world. A true value for the money and high standard of living/decoration is what Indian carpets are all about.”

ICE is the flagship event of the Carpet Export Promotion Council, and is a “unique forum for all carpet importers, be it wholesalers, retailers, department stores, interior designers and architects too,” said the spokesperson. The biannual carpet fair is organized under the aegis of the Indian government and takes place each year in February/March and October/November.

During the show held earlier this year, 219 exhibitors from different parts of the country participated in the export-oriented fair, in which buyers from 51 countries attended.
