Omaha, Neb.–The Nebraska-Iowa Floor Covering Association hosted the CFI–WFCA carpet, laminate and wood training and certification here last month.

Kevin Johnson, owner of Creative Carpet Designs and president of the association, was instrumental in the preparation of the event. Doris Miller, the executive director began the event planning many months ago with the members.

Tom Jennings, vice president of WFCA Member Services, said, “We all realize that these events do not happen without key people wanting this in their areas. Please know that a number of installers are better off today because the Nebraska-Iowa Floor Covering Association had the passion to help show them a better way.” Jennings’ presentation focused on how to better serve the customer and increase business.

The group of 22 installers received training in the CFI programs of carpet, laminate and wood. “This was a great group of installers who wanted to learn more about their trade,” said Efren Llamas, instructor for the hard surface class. “We enjoyed working with them.”

Both classes are two-days of hands-on training using industry standards to bring the latest techniques and requirements to the classes. CFI ships large crates of tools and supplies to ensure the installers use the recommended tools and supplies. The association donated the flooring materials and provided lunch each day.

Jim Walker, CFI CEO and instructor said, “We appreciate the support of the WFCA for the dealer scholarship funds which provided an opportunity for many to attend. With this type of backing, there is no reason that an installer should ever miss a training event. Those who do not keep up their education are fooling themselves. Tools change, methods change, products change and to provide the finest customer service, installers and dealers must understand this to always be up to date in their field.”
