Export, Pa.—Karndean Designflooring, in conjunction with Hanley Wood, LLC, is offering a new continuing education course (CEU) titled “Technical and Practical Benefits of Optimizing Acoustics in Commercial and Residential Buildings.”

The course identifies factors affecting acoustic performance and explains acoustic measurements and testing standards, including sound transmission class (STC), impact insulation class (IIC) and Delta IIC (ΔIIC). It also explains the benefits of improved acoustics in commercial and residential applications, analyzes how flooring systems can help meet acoustic requirements for optimal indoor environmental quality and examines case studies where integrating acoustic design was a high priority.

“While the IIC rating is certainly important, it is not always the most telling number in terms of acoustic performance of the floor covering and overall building acoustic performance,” said Adrian Shortland, global liaison – technical & environmental, Karndean Designflooring. “It’s important that architects, designers and specifiers familiarize themselves with additional testing data in order to make a more informed decision.”

The course is available for free online at hanleywooduniversity.com or in-person by a Karndean Designflooring Commercial business manager. The course is accredited by the American Institute of Architects Continuing Education Systems – AIA/CES 1 LU (HSW) and the Interior Design Continuing Education Council – IDCEC 1 credit hour.
