Dalton—Shaw Floors has been chosen by House Beautiful magazine for its fourth annual “Kitchen of the Year.” As the flooring sponsor, the kitchen will feature Shaw’s Grand Canyon, an environmentally friendly hardwood style made from 100% wood byproducts. Tyler Florence, noted chef, Food Network host and House Beautiful contributing editor, is designing this year’s 1000 square-foot kitchen, described as a “perfect union of tradition, functionality and warm, welcoming design.” Located in the heart of Rockefeller Plaza in New York City, the Kitchen of the Year will be open to the public from Monday, July 18 through Friday, July 22.

Using post-industrial wood byproducts, Grand Canyon is constructed much like a butcher block and presents a unique visual. The product is hand-scraped and distressed by individual craftsmen to provide a special beauty and charm. In addition to its aesthetic quality, Grand Canyon offers exceptional strength and durability. The color chosen for the kitchen is Bright Angel.

The design reflects Tyler Florence’s vision of the kitchen as “the new American living room,” incorporating his concepts of family, cooking, entertaining, comfort, design and heritage. “We believe Grand Canyon, with its welcoming charm and traditional look, is a perfect choice for Tyler’s vision,” said Kathy Young, Shaw’s director of marketing.

This year’s Kitchen of the Year will be held in conjunction with “Tastes of Summer,” an outdoor food festival that features samples from Rockefeller Center’s most popular restaurants. Tyler Florence will be available at free events throughout the week to give fans an opportunity to meet him. There will also be daily cooking demonstrations, tastings, kitchen tours and more. Additional information about the Kitchen of the Year will be made available on the House Beautiful website, housebeautiful.com/KOTY.
