Retailers React: Are you feeling any impact from the LVT detention?

LVT detentionEvery two weeks, FCNews seeks out flooring retailers across the country to offer their advice on hot topics of the day. This week we asked: Are you feeling any impact from the LVT detention?

Here are their responses:

“As of now we haven’t been impacted at all with having to wait for LVT. If (and when) it does become a problem, we always tell the customers that it might be an issue and they should have a few choices ready if the job is time sensitive. For the most part, customers have become more understanding of ‘the new normal’ when it comes to shipping delays.”

“We are starting to run into some lengthy back orders, but we stocked up on most of our heavy-hitting products. A majority of what we sell and show is OK.”

—Joe Elder Hiller’s Flooring America Meadville, Pa.

“The availability of products seems to be taking a backslide as of late. We’re having to make use of online inventory checks a lot more to ensure product availability and trying to use domestic materials as much as possible.”

—Mike Foulk Foulk’s Flooring America Meadville, Pa.

“The manufacturers I work with took notice of this situation six months ago and either switched factories or got the proper documentation in place. Many of my products do not come from China; they come from other countries. We also have a heavy presence of American-made products in our store.”

—Typhannie Harker Carpeting by Mike Somerset, Wis.

“So far, we have not been impacted too much with the LVT container detention issues. We stock products and have marked all styles on the showroom floor that have lead-time issues, so customers are aware of the problem.”
